The 2020 U.S. Census Set to Begin This Month

The 2020 U.S. Census Set to Begin This Month

March 2nd, 2020 @ 9:15am

Census Day is April 1, 2020.  The 2020 Census is designed to count every person living in the United States in the right place.  Why does ensuring that every resident gets counted matter to you and your community?  Data obtained through the Census is used to determine the amount of federal money Illinois receives each year to support:

  • Repair and replacement of infrastructure
  • Schools and school districts
  • Public safety, emergency preparedness and response, and public health
  • Social service programs that provide assistance for senior citizens, veterans and low-income families

The Village's official Census population is also used to determine the amount of funding that Fisher receives from State of Illinois tax revenues, dollars which are used in part to support the daily operations of the Village and maintenance of infrastructure such as streets, alleys, sidewalks and storm water drainage.

Residents will be receiving invitations to report in the mail around mid-March.  For the first time, citizens will be able to respond to the Census online.  Mailed responses will also be accepted.  Census workers will be making contact with those residents who fail to report in a timely manner, so the Village encourages everyone to complete their responses as quickly as possible.

Your privacy is protected.  It is illegal for the Census Bureau to publicly release your responses in any way that could identify you or your household.  By law, your responses cannot be used against you and can only be used to produce general statistics.
