Village to Hold Public Hearing on Recreational Cannabis
September 17th, 2019 @ 9:25am
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Fisher invites comments from the public on the possible prohibition and/or regulation of the sale of cannabis for recreational use within the corporate limits of the Village.
The State of Illinois has approved the use and possession of recreational cannabis for adults 21 years of age and older effective January 1, 2020. This law does not automatically change the provisions of the municipal code or zoning ordinance of the Village of Fisher. Although adult possession and use of recreational cannabis will be legal (with certain restrictions) within the Village under State law, the Village still retains the rights to entirely prohibit the sale of cannabis or to enact local regulations in connection with sales if permitted within the Village.
The Board of Trustees is soliciting input from the community as it considers the appropriate action to take in connection with the sale of recreational cannabis in Fisher. Citizens are encouraged to attend a public hearing on this issue, which will be held at the Fisher Community Center, 100 East School Street, on September 25, 2019 at 6:00pm.
For those unable to attend the hearing, the Village will also receive comments in writing. Please address written comments as follows:
By mail to: Village of Fisher, 100 E. School Street, Fisher, IL 61843
By email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
