Village Street Improvement Projects Begin in June

The Village of Fisher has approved two major street improvement projects for this summer as part of its five-year Capital Improvement Plan. Both projects are slated to begin during the month of June, with completion expected during the first part of July.
The first project involves the slag sealing of South First Street, from Front Street to Mathews Lane. The first coating of crushed gravel has been applied to the roadway and will need some time to cure before the slag seal layer is applied. During this time, residents and motorists will notice that motor vehicle traffic over the treated roadway generates dust, which should subside over time. Once the project is completed in approximately two weeks, this section of First Street will resemble the finished surface of the area county highways. Slag sealing is a type of treatment that utilizes a black aggregate by-product of the coal power production process and is designed to prolong the life of the underlying asphalt roadway before more costly reconstruction is necessary.
The second project, which is expected to begin in mid-June, is the resurfacing of North Third Street. An overlay will be applied to the roadway from Fairfield to its junction with North First Street/County Road 600E (through the curves). This project is expected to start either the week of June 17 or June 24, depending on weather conditions, and should be completed within three weeks.
The Village has committed over $500,000 to completing these much-needed improvements this year using funds received from the sale of the water and wastewater systems to Illinois American Water Company.
