Area Disposal to Begin Billing for Garbage Service

Area Disposal to Begin Billing for Garbage Service

January 26th, 2018 @ 12:00pm

Last fall, the Village Board approved a new six-year agreement with Area Disposal for garbage collection services to all single family residences in the community.  As part of this agreement, the Village will no longer be responsible for billing and collecting garbage fees as part of the water and sewer bills.  Instead, residents will start receiving bills directly from Area and will need to arrange for payments to be made directly to Area Disposal either by mail or online.  To see the payment options offered by Area, you can visit their website by clicking here

Due to this change, garbage rates will increase to $15.25 per month and $14.50 per month for senior citizens 65 and over.  Area also bills on a quarterly basis rather than monthly, so residents will be billed for three months of service at one time ($45.75 or $43.50 for seniors).  This change will be effective in February, and residents will receive a first bill from Area for February/March/April service.  The February water/sewer bill (for January usage) will be the final bill from the Village containing a garbage fee at the current rate.  Area will also need to be contacted directly at (217) 897-1390 for any new service setup or changes in billing information, as the Village will no longer maintain account information.

The Village decided to turn the billing over to the garbage company due to the upcoming sale of the water and wastewater systems to Illinois American Water.  Once the sale is finalized this spring, the Village will no longer handle any billing or collections.
